  Praise items - Sunday 1st August 2010

Davidson’s Mains Parish Church CCL Licence No. 17322

10.30am

  Christ is made the sure foundation,

Christ the head and corner-stone

chosen of the Lord and precious,

binding all the Church in one;

holy Zion’s help for ever,

and her confidence alone.

2. We as living stones invoke you:

Come among us, Lord, today!

with Your gracious loving-kindness

hear Your children as we pray;

and the fulness of Your blessing

in our fellowship display.

3. Here entrust to all Your servants

what we long from You to gain –

that on earth and in the heavens

we one people shall remain,

till united in Your glory

evermore with You we reign.

4. Praise and honour to the Father,

praise and honour to the Son,

praise and honour to the Spirit,

ever Three and ever One:

one in power and one in glory

while eternal ages run.

CMP 73 John Mason Neale 1818–66

Who is this man named Jesus?
Where did he come from,
does anyone know?
Who is this man named Jesus,
In his home-spun carpenter’s clothes?

He speaks, He heals,
He knows exactly how we live.
He shows God’s love
And he has power to forgive…

 2. Who is this man named Jesus?
 Why do the crowds all follow him here?
 Who is this man named Jesus
 Who says things we’re waiting to hear?

He speaks, He heals,
He knows exactly how we live.
He shows God’s love
And he has power to forgive…

3. Who is this man named Jesus?
Where did he come from,
does anyone know?
Who is this man named Jesus,
In his home-spun carpenter’s clothes? X 3

Make way, make way for Christ the King

In splendour arrives.

Fling wide the gates and welcome Him

Into your lives.

Make way, make way,

For the King of Kings

Make way, make way,

And let His Kingdom in.

He comes the broken hearts to heal

The prisoners to free

The deaf shall hear, the lame shall dance,

The blind shall see.

And those who mourn with heavy hearts,

Who weep and sigh

With laughter, joy and royal crown

He'll beautify.

We call you now to worship Him

As Lord of All.

To have no gods before Him

Their thrones must fall.

Graham Kendrick c.1986 Kingsway’s Thankyou Music

Light of the world,

You stepped down into darkness

Opened my eyes, let me see

Beauty that made this heart adore You

Hope of a life spent with You.

So here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down

Here I am to say that You’re my God.

You’re altogether lovely

Altogether worthy

Altogether wonderful to me.

King of all days, oh, so highly exalted

Glorious in heaven above

Humbly You came to the earth You created

All for love’s sake became poor.

So here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down

Here I am to say that You’re my God.

You’re altogether lovely

Altogether worthy

Altogether wonderful to me.

So here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down

Here I am to say that You’re my God.

You’re altogether lovely

Altogether worthy

Altogether wonderful to me.

I’ll never know how much it cost

To see my sin upon that cross

I’ll never know how much it cost

To see my sin upon that cross.

So here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down

Here I am to say that You’re my God.

You’re altogether lovely

Altogether worthy

Altogether wonderful to me.

Lord, for the years your love

has kept and guided,

urged and inspired us,

cheered us on our way,

sought us and saved us,

pardoned and provided,

Lord of the years,

we bring our thanks today.

2. Lord, for that word,

the word of life which fires us,

speaks to our hearts

and sets our souls ablaze,

teaches and trains,

rebukes us and inspires us,

Lord of the word,

receive your people’s praise.

3. Lord, for our land,

in this our generation,

spirits oppressed by pleasure,

wealth and care;

for young and old,

for commonwealth and nation,

Lord of our land,

be pleased to hear our prayer.

4. Lord for ourselves;

in living power remake us,

self on the cross

and Christ upon the throne;

past put behind us,

for the future take us,

Lord of our lives,

to live for Christ alone.

SG 602 Timothy Dudley-Smith

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun

Does his successive journeys run;

His Kingdom stretch from shore to shore,

Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

2. People and realms of every tongue

Dwell on his love with sweetest song;

And infant voices shall proclaim

Their early blessings on his Name.

3. Blessings abound where’er he reigns:

The prisoner leaps to lose his chains,

The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

4. Let every creature rise and bring

Peculiar honours to our King,

Angels descend with songs again,

And earth repeat the long Amen.

CH3 413 Isaac Watts

6.30pm

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,

Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,

Almighty, victorious, thy great Name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,

Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;

Thy justice like mountains high soaring above

Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

3. To all, life thou givest – to both great and small;

In all life thou livest, the true life of all;

We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,

And wither and perish – but naught changeth thee.

4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,

Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;

All laud we would render: O help us to see

‘Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

CH3 32 Walter Chalmers Smith 1824-1908

All my days I will sing this song of gladness,

give my praise to the Fountain of delights;

for in my helplessness you heard my cry,

and waves of mercy poured down on my life.

2. I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer,

I will sing of the blood that never fails,

of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed,

of death defeated and life without end.

Beautiful Saviour, wonderful Counsellor,

clothed in majesty, Lord of history,

you’re the way, the truth, the life.

Star of the morning, glorious in holiness,

you’re the risen One, heaven’s champion,

and you reign, you reign over all!

3. I long to be where the praise is never-ending,

yearn to dwell where the glory never fades,

where countless worshippers will share one song,

and cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb!

WT 9 Stuart Townend © 1998 Kingsway’s Thankyou Music

Lord, I come before your throne of grace;

I find rest in your presence and fulness of joy.

In worship and wonder I behold your face,

singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God have I,

what a faithful God.

What a faithful God have I

faithful in every way.

2. Lord of mercy, you have heard my cry;

through the storm you’re the beacon,

my song in the night.

In the shelter of your wings, hear my heart’s reply,

singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God have I,

what a faithful God.

What a faithful God have I

faithful in every way.

3. Lord all sovereign, granting peace from heaven,

let me comfort those who suffer

with the comfort you have given.

 I will tell of your great love for as long as I live,

singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God have I,

what a faithful God.

What a faithful God have I

faithful in every way.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way,

still you’re there right beside me.

And nothing will I fear as long as you are near;

please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path.

2. I will not forget your love for me, and yet

my heart forever is wandering.

Jesus, be my guide and hold me to your side,

and I will love you to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path.

Thy hand, O God, has guided

Thy flock, from age to age;

The wondrous tale is written,

Full clear, on every page;

Our fathers owned thy goodness,

And we their deeds record;

And both of this bear witness,

One Church, one Faith, one Lord.

2. Thy heralds brought glad tidings

To greatest, as to least;

They bade men rise, and hasten

To share the great King’s feast;

And this was all their teaching,

In every deed and word,

To all alike proclaiming,

One Church, one Faith, one Lord.

3. Through many a day of darkness,

Through many a scene of strife,

The faithful few fought bravely

To guard the nation’s life.

Their Gospel of redemption,

Sin pardoned, man restored,

Was all in this enfolded,

One Church, one Faith, one Lord.

4. Thy mercy will not fail us,

Nor leave they work undone;

Withy thy right hand to help us,

The victory shall be won;

And then, by men and angels,

Thy Name shall be adored,

And this shall be their anthem:

One Church, one Faith, one Lord.
