NEWS Updated - 13/11/08

There's an Update (giving up-to-the-minute news and information) available daily from the Information Point in the Reception Area

Project Stedfast

Four of our 56th BB Company headed off to Kenya again on October 20th and are now safely and happily back.

Chris Orman, Ewan McNab, Chris Smith and Jonathan Smith visited St Andrew School and met some of the children who will be benefiting from receiving an education for the first time in their lives.

There'll be a chance to catch up with their story in January.

The 56th Company have committed themselves to raising £500 each year over the next five years to help towards a teacher's salary:  and in this way they hope to be able to help support the school as it establishes a more stable financial footing for the years ahead.

Getting the picture!

There's always that much going on it's not always easy to keep track of it all!

One good way is to sign up to receive  the Update by e-mail every time it comes out:  that's usually twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday) and it keeps you posted on news and information along with prayer points from around the world:  we can simply put you on the list, press the button .. and wherever you are your copy will come effortlessly to you.  For those who always forget to pick one up it's a great way of side-stepping all those little memory blips!

You can receive the monthly Bulletin in the same way.  This sheet provides a diary for the month ahead (the details of which you can also obtain at any point, of course, by clicking above  on CALENDAR and going to the relevant month).

Or you can simply call in or call by, chill out and chat in the Reception Area, or touch base with Carol in the office.

The Big Picture

The latest edition of The Big Picture has just come out and it'll give you another sort of 'snapshot' of the life of the congregation.

What goes on behind the scenes?  How does everything work?

Well, those are some of the things this issue of the magazine explores.  Its theme is the Ministry Area we call 'Administration', and it gives a glimpse of some of the different areas of work embraced by that area.

There's a whole load else, of course.  All sorts of other articles, which will give you a feel for the life of a congregation where nothing stays still for long!

There are still back copies available if you'd like a particular one.

Your Guide

Copies of our 'welcome pack' are available from the Reception Area.

A useful size (half-way between A5 and A6 - if that means anything to you!) it's an attractively produced, full colour, glossy little booklet which hopefully provides a comprehensive welcome to our life.

Notice Boards

We're working as well to create a display on the South Hall Notice Board which will give you a sort of 'map' to find your way around our congregational life.

Keep watching that space!

Midweek Midday services

Our midweek services started again on Wednesday 17th September.

It looks like they're proving as popular as they've been in the past.

These half-hour lunchtime services start at 12.30pm and are followed by the chance to take a light lunch in the Reception Area:  and they're held weekly on Wednesdays.

At present we're looking at the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis.

Reception Area

The Reception Area is up and running every week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with teas, coffees and lunches being served between 10am and 1.30pm.

If you'd like to volunteer to give some help, do contact us!

'Blogs'

The Pollock family

Nigel and Ailsa

with Luke, Jamie & Craig

There's regular news from these 'intrepid explorers and their friends in the land of the Long White Cloud'

Keep in touch with all that's going on in the lives of the Pollock family by checking their 'blog' regularly.  Their 'blog' (usually) has fairly regular 'posts', or new entries, which give you a good insight into both Nigel's work situation and their family life.

www.pacificscots.blogspot.com is the place to go to find out all that's going on in their lives.

The whole family will be back in the UK over Christmas and we are really looking forward to seeing them all again.

A 'blog' is simply a web log, that's to say, a kind of journal which is kept on a website on the internet.

The minister

You can keep track of the minister, too, by checking out his 'blogs':  in fact you can comment on them as well if you feel so inclined!

Abes' Babes offers, from time to time (though it's been a while since there's been an entry here!), an extended reflection on some issue.

www.abesbabes21c.blogspot.com

is the website to go to for that

Or, alternatively, you can try his life at the cutting edge

for something more in the way of a daily diary:  the entries are a good deal shorter, but they give a little bit of an insight into his day-by-day life.

Stewart Goudie

Follow his progress as he slowly emerges as a minister!  He's presently involved full-time at Winchburgh.

Keep track on him either by clicking on his name above or else by going to  www.emerging-ministry.blogspot.com.

Victoria Linford, who's at the same stage in her training, is doing her probationary period at Barclay Church here in Edinburgh.

Green Fingers

We've had a team of folk over many years who've made sure that our gardens are a wonderfully attractive feature for all who come around the premises.

It takes quite a bit of work to keep them in that condition, obviously; if you can help then we'd be pleased to know!

David Johnston is now our  Gardens Convener and if you'd like to be involved in maintaining our gardens please get in touch with him:  or contact the Office.

One of our aims is to ensure that we provide an environment where something of the beauty of God's creation and the peace that there is in God's Son can be experienced by one and all.
